Feeling completely and totally inundated with sugar left us needing something comforting and hearty. So we made a huge bowl of spaghetti for dinner. And what is spaghetti without some sort of bread? In a pinch, we make these garlic cheese biscuits similar to the ones from Red Lobster. Only I tweak it a little.
Which leaves us with this recipe:
Garlic Cheese Biscuits (or Cheese Garlic Biscuits. Are you a K M&C or K C&M person??)
1 cup flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/ tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp. fresh minced garlic
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk
1/3-1/2 cup shredded cheddar (also good to use up leftover bits of whatever cheese you've got on hand. I've had good results with everything from fresh parmesan to muenster.)
2 tbsp. melted butter
Combine flour, salt, baking powder, cream of tartar, sugar, garlic powder, and fresh minced garlic in a small mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. Stir in milk, and then cheese. Drop by large spoonfulls onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 425 for 10-12 minutes. Brush tops of biscuits with melted butter and gobble up!
The greatest part about making biscuits with kids is that they are best if mixed not-too-perfectly. This way the littles get to do pretty much everything and still end up with nearly perfect biscuits.
Why don't I ever take pictures of finished products??
Hmm...
A point to ponder.
