Not too long ago, Angela posted about libraries and told about how amazing hers is. Well, I sort of blew it off (despite a twinge of jealousy) because I live in a small town squished between other towns and we have no library of our own. The cities on either side of us do, but as we don't pay their taxes there is a large fee to have a library card to either one. With my ongoing attempts to buy a home, putting money towards a library card was not one of my priorities since we'd end up living somewhere else anyway.
Which means I basically ignored the libraries.

Haven't we all been guilty of that at some point? It never occured to me that I live near areas devoted to the development and sharing of talent, and that living in such environment also meant that remarkable talent is brought to our doorsteps all the time.
Enter: free concert by the Amelia Piano Trio at one of the local libraries. They played:
Claude Debussy
Trio
Leonard Bernstein
Piano Trio in G Minor, Op. 8
Frederic Chopin
The Chopin piece was selected to honor 200 years since Chopin's birth. It was originally written for piano, cello, and violin but after a fair amount of library research, the violinist discovered a quote from Chopin stating that he ought to have written it for viola instead. Since she plays both, she transposed the piece and they tried it both ways to determine which they preferred. They all agreed with Chopin that the viola was a better fit and have been playing the piece that way to honor him.
It was spectacular. Truly. That darling little girl on the piano is so teeny I spent a good chunk of time trying to figure out how she could reach the keys.
So here's my plug: Check it out. See what is going on at your local library that doesn't involve having to have a library card. You just may be surprised.

:) Glad you found something to enjoy! I totally get the not having membership issue. I've never had to pay the out of area fees. Oh, that could be a non-stuff christmas gift idea...if that makes any sense. Ask for a library card. Until then keep your eyes open for programs they are having b/c you can participate in those without a card!
Hey -- did you know that Lindon City will refund 75% of the cost of a library card, at either Orem or Pleasant Grove. This cuts the cost considerably. The only catch is that they will only refund one per address so you might have to get a "family card" with your upstairs family if they've already done it.
