favor: custom swirly crayons

use up all those crazy crayon bits. or, in this case, demolish perfectly ok crayons simply to have the color choices you want.

make sure all the papers are off - but don't throw them out. add them to your recycle bin or better yet throw them into your saucepan of paper mush for homemade paper. (more on this later if i can come up with a successful batch. i'm having screen issues)
pull out the handy-dandy free-with-purchase-of-stuff-you-were-going-to-buy-anyway crayon re-melt-y gadget. seriously, it was free with a $10 purchase of anything crayola two years ago. i never would've bought it.
while i dig the idea of melting crayon scraps into cute little hearts and stuff, (or just circles using muffin tins)being able to make the nifty typical crayon shape is something I really adore.
add crayon bits in random combinations and try really hard to not nag about leaving the thing alone for the 20 minutes it's going to take that wimpy little light bulb to melt it all.
pour the hot scalding drippy wax into the mold and see what swirls appear. neat-o.
resist urge to remove warm, still squishy crayons from the mold. i so dig this. did i say that yet? it's just schnazzy to be able to make real crayon looking crayons.
slap some papers on those puppies, stick them in a bag, add a little note, and we have another completely homemade party favor. being free to make was just a bonus, albeit a big one.

Has anyone told you lately how awesome you are -- Just thought I'd throw it out there. :)
We actually paid 2.50 for ours at the thrift store.The boys were fascinated for 1 batch. I got rid of it about a year ago;but your idea is great! As for paper...have fun, we made paper several times and I have a deckle around here somewhere and I'm saving fabric scraps for some cotton rag paper...some day.
