history

this is an historic day
(regardless which opinion you bear on it)

but try telling that to a class of 36 9th graders who know
neither what the president of the united states really does
nor do they care
you try likening it to september 11th in memorable moments of their (exceedingly) young lives
but that fails

mercilessly

kind of like when my 9th grade civics teacher
tried to tell us that the gulf war (late 80's) was a BIG deal
and sent us all home with copies of the day's newspaper
to save

forever

(i still have mine)

so,
after a few minutes flailing like a fish out of water
you cave
and continue describing volcano types

just to come home
and find out the REAL reason for today's historical significance


what can i say
those kids will all understand one day
