I do not recommend using only whole wheat flour for the recipe. In case anyone else is as obsessed as I've been lately about making every single thing whole wheat... it's too heavy and they don't rise well.

I've used whole wheat and they worked great. If you aren't using freshly ground wheat you'll probably have to sift it, though.
