in my closet is a medium size box that once held my combination dvd/vcr player
within this box lies a treasure
i'm not a collector per se
it's never been my thing
and yet, i have a collection unlike any i've ever seen
of these: 
most were my mother's
many i purchased as gifts for her
birthdays, Christmas, Easter
anytime a yet unaquired shape was seen
out of random curiosity, i counted them
all occasion: 64
Christmas: 63
valentines day: 36
st. patrick's day: 5
Easter: 11
halloween/thanksgiving: 24
old style metal (not sorted): 38
for a whopping total of 241
there are airplanes, feet, hippos, baseball gloves, dragons, ponies, eggs, reindeer, ducks, footballs, and flowers
scallops, stars, clowns, lions, and frogs
numbers and letters and stackable bears
and some i just don't know about
but then, i looked in my kitchen drawer and found 5 more
and oh, that's right, aeryn has a set she got from grandma: 4 more
and we certainly can't forget my Christmas gift from aeryn a year ago: the wilton set of every-shape-under-the-sun 100 piece package
grand total? 350
not too shabby for a non-collector

I am a collector! I collect rabbits, heart earrings, stickers (with the intention to use them!), white on white fabrics, small boxes, small animals(under the disguise of giving them to son#4), art supplies, craft supplies, dishes to break for my mosaics, beads for my projects, pens in all colors, books, shelves, movies, and dust! Maybe more, I have never taken inventory before. These things make me smile and feel warm and cozy, except the dust.
