this dainty bird one of this years acquisitions. clearly, it's not vintage, but a replica bearing slight resemblance to a bygone era. as soon as i saw them i knew they would be the addition of the year (though i confess i bought some 18 point stars too because i love them so).
i love how well the new blends with the old. how the colors and textures vary so greatly yet somehow compliment each other well. to the left side there is a glass icicle in the distance that used to belong to my former mother-in-law. aeryn's dad grew up placing these on their family tree and they were some of his favorites. his mother gave them to us, and he let me keep them, for which i am tremendously grateful. i may have no part in their history, but i really do like being able to give aeryn a pleasant memory of something that was special to her dad. don't they add a little something mystical? (these triggered another obsession and i started buying glass icicles every time i saw them. love love love the sparkle)
mostly i love that my tree can be an expression of all things Christmas that i love. whatever they are, wherever they originated, and however they came into my world, they all get a chance to be showcased in a surprisingly blissful merger. and the view of my tree is different from every angle. oh, how i love my perfectly imperfect tree.

holiday memoirs v.3 (or.... why i've grown out of wanting a 'perfectly' coordinated Christmas tree v.3)

I really like the name of your blog, so I just wanted to say Hi, and tell you it is snowing outside my window. I love the snow. Have a happy day. TTFN
That bird is fabulous! It reminds me of one my mother owns, complete with real feathers. It's one of her favorite ornaments, and each year Julie and I were instructed to handle it very carefully as it was fragile and beginning to fall apart from years and years of Christmas celebrations. We were fascinated by it.
